You Are a Sponge (Or a Lemon)
No, I'm not referring to the common learning analogy.
Rather, you squeeze yourself dry from morning to night through the act of living.
It's more and more noticeable as you age, but any person has been tired, which is all you need to know that you are a sponge:
- You wake up.
- You live (squeeze).
- You sleep (absorb).
Repeat.
This is why there are diminishing returns when you burn the midnight oil.
Imagine trying to wash a plate with a dry, wrung-out sponge.
That's you staying up way too late.
Imagine trying to wash a plate with a lush, soapy sponge.
That's you after a perfect night's sleep.
Imagine using a sponge over and over for decades. It's pale and cracked.
That's you after a life well-lived.
You are a sponge.
Or a lemon.
